Privacy policy

Marku Roofing Repair Ltd. is a roofing contractor in Calgary, Alberta. This policy covers the personal information we collect through this website, by phone, by email, and in person at your property. We handle it under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and, where it applies, Canada's PIPEDA.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you fill in an estimate form, call, or email us:

• your name, phone number and email address
• the address of the property, and your relationship to it if it is not yours
• what the roof is doing, its age and type, and any photographs you send
• your claim number and adjuster's contact details, if you are making a hail or storm claim

We ask for what we need to quote and to do the work. You do not have to give us a claim number to get an estimate.

Information collected automatically. Our web host records standard server logs, including IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Those are used to keep the site running and secure, nothing else.

Photographs of your roof. An inspection produces photographs and a written report. Those are records of your property and we treat them as your information.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics or advertising script is loaded on any page. If that changes, this section changes with it and the date at the top of this page moves.

What we use it for

• preparing a written estimate, and scheduling an inspection or a repair
• doing the work, ordering material, and warranty follow-up afterwards
• supporting an insurance claim, where you have asked us to deal with your adjuster
• invoicing, and the bookkeeping and tax records a business is required to keep
• answering a question you sent us

We do not sell personal information, and we do not hand it to anyone for their own marketing. Asking for a quote does not put you on a mailing list.

Who we share it with

• Your insurer or adjuster, only when you have asked us to submit or support a claim, and only what the claim requires.
• Suppliers and subtrades working on your roof, limited to the address and the scope of work.
• Service providers that run our website hosting, email and accounting, under their own confidentiality obligations.
• Anyone the law requires, such as a court order or a regulatory authority.

Some of those providers store data outside Canada, which means it can be subject to the laws of the country it sits in.

Photographs of finished work

We photograph our own work. Before a photograph of your property is used publicly, on this site or anywhere else, we ask you first, and we do not publish street numbers.

How long we keep it

Estimates that do not turn into work are kept for two years. Records of completed work, including inspection photographs, invoices and warranty documents, are kept for seven years, which is what the tax rules and the warranty period require. After that they are deleted or destroyed.

How we protect it

Access is limited to the people who need it to quote, schedule, do the work, or bill for it. Digital files sit on password-protected accounts and paper records are kept at our office. No system is perfect. If a breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you, and we will tell the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you, and how it has been used
• correct anything that is wrong
• delete it, where we are not required to keep it
• stop contacting you, at any time

Write to us at the address below and we will respond within 45 days, which is the deadline the Act sets. There is no charge for a straightforward request. If our answer does not satisfy you, you can take it to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top. A material change to how we use information we already hold will be brought to your attention directly.
